August 2020 Updates
almost 4 years ago – Sun, Aug 02, 2020 at 10:00:13 PM

We have a MASSIVE amount of updates for you this month, but before we dive in, we want to tell you a few things about our sister publications...

Brindlewood Bay is the Deal of the Day!

Brindlewood Bay is the Deal of the Day on DriveThruRPG! For today only, you can get PDFs of the game, all the play sheets, and 5 mysteries for just $5 USD. Grab it here.

Brindlewood Bay is a roleplaying game about a group of elderly women—members of the local Murder Mavens mystery book club—who frequently find themselves investigating (and solving!) real-life murder mysteries. They become increasingly aware that there are supernatural forces that connect the cases they are working on and, in particular, a cult dedicated to the dark, monstrous aspect of the goddess Persephone will come to vex them.

The game is directly inspired by the television show Murder, She Wrote, but also takes inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, “cozy” crime dramas, and American TV shows from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.

But hurry—Deal of the Day expires the morning of August 3rd!

Hearts of Wulin is now available for pre-order!

Hearts of Wulin is a roleplaying game of Wuxia melodrama, Powered by the Apocalypse. It is now available to preorder. Click here to visit the pre-order store.

In Hearts of Wulin, players take the role of skilled martial artists in a world of rival clans, conspiracies, and obligations. The game emulates films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Chinese wuxia TV series like The Smiling Proud Wanderer and Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain, and Chinese martial arts novels from the second half of the twentieth century. In these tales, romance is as dangerous as a blade. Everyone has ties to factions, loves they can’t quite express, and secrets which will shake them to their core. As in the source material, stories in Hearts of Wulin are driven by the characters’ duties, romantic desires, and entanglements with other characters.

Hearts of Wulin is Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA), meaning its mechanics are inspired, in part, by Apocalypse World by Vincent and Meguey Baker. The game is strongly influenced by several recent PbtA games, including Monsterhearts 2 by Avery Alder, Masks by Brendan Conway, and The Veil by Fraser Simons. That said, Hearts of Wulin stands on its own, and has several distinct features that help players tell stories steeped in wuxia melodrama.

Trophy Gold Incursions are coming to Codex!

The Codex magazine is going to be the home of new Trophy Gold incursions for the foreseeable future, and we are startin with a bang a little later this month with Codex - Leviathan. That issue of the magazine will include THREE new Trophy Gold incursions: Leviathan's Bridge, From the Belly of the Beast, and That Colossal Wreck. To get Codex, just make a $6+ pledge to the Gauntlet Patreon.

Here's some details about those three new incursions...

Leviathan's Bridge by Gabriel Robinson was the winner of our recent Trophy Gold incursion contest. In this incursion, the treasure-hunters are searching for a temple carved in the skull of a titanic whale. Along the way, they'll encounter goblin seers, a deadly bone mantis, Grandmother Greenteeth, and all manner of fabulous treasure—if they're careful (and lucky).

From the Belly of the Beast by Madeleine Ember is an incursion that takes place inside the dying body of a god-like whale being. Can you locate the lost ship Copernica? We won't spoil it for you, but trust us: this incursion is one of extreme horror—bloody and disgusting in all the right ways.

That Colossal Wreck by Natalie Ash is a classic dungeon crawl filled with puzzles, tomb guardians, ancient relics, and more. This one has the pulpy, high-adventure feel of a 1E adventure, but updated for Trophy Gold.

Future issues of Codex will have 1 or more brand-new Trophy Gold incursions for the foreseeable future (in addition to all the other awesome things in Codex). It's the best value in gaming; get it right here.

The Sixth Ring

The Sixth Ring podcast is now available in The Trophy Podcast feed. The Sixth Ring is an amazing new Trophy discussion show hosted by Judd Karlman and Jason Cordova. Each episode, they talk all things Trophy, including third-party content, gameplay theory, and much more (they even create new magic items and monsters live on the air). The team has so far released two episodes, Beginnings and Fate. A third episode, Loss, will be out this week. Check it out!

YouTube Actual Plays

Trophy publisher Jason Cordova has been running Trophy Dark and Trophy Gold online. If you want to see a great example of how to run and play Trophy, you definitely want to check out these playlists (they're also quite entertaining).

We're also embedding a couple of episodes right here...

Trophy Dicebot for Discord!

Would you like to add some custom Trophy dice to your Discord? Well, Mags Maenad has created something really awesome for you. This dice roller has light dice, dark dice, and gold dice, plus it includes commands for every type of die roll in the game (as well as telling you, in text, how to interpret the result—handy!). You can install it using this link: https://app.trophyrpg.com/

Candlelight and Oligarchy are here!

Two of the Zinequest Trophy project are now available to purchase on itch.io. Grab Candlelight and Oligarchy by clicking the images below!

Last call for Trophy Loom crowdsourcing!

As you may know, some of Trophy Loom is being crowdsourced by fans of the game. That crowdsourcing is coming to an end. You have until August 15th to put your small mark on the world of Trophy. Check out the master list here.

BackerKit is coming soon!

We know many of you are anxiously awaiting BackerKit pre-orders. And we are anxious to get those pre-orders in your hands. We're just not quite there yet. The Trophy pre-order is essentially a second (smaller) Kickstarter for us, and putting together the page is a lot of work. We want to make sure all our assets look great before the page goes live. But we're getting there!

As always, thanks so much for your support! Onward!
